When Mayor Lee, our namesake, passed unexpectedly, SF elected London Breed to to continue his legacy of inclusion and support for all San Franciscans. Mayor Breed has consistently championed the API community and continues to uphold Mayor Lee’s vision of service and compassion.
London Breed’s story is a testament to resilience. Raised by her grandmother in public housing in the Western Addition, she witnessed her community torn apart by redevelopment. Despite the challenges, she rose from poverty to become District 5 Supervisor in 2012 and was later elected Board President. She stepped up as Mayor following Mayor Lee’s sudden passing.
As Mayor, she led San Francisco through COVID, saving thousands of lives and setting the city on a path to recovery. Today, under her leadership:
- Crime is at a 10-year low.
- Street homelessness is at a 10-year low.
